High Gloss Laminate vs Matte Laminate
Which finish is best for your modular kitchen and wardrobes? We break down the scratch resistance, cleaning effort, and aesthetic differences.
Use High Gloss to make tiny spaces feel larger. Use Matte for luxury styling and scratch-heavy zones.
High Gloss vs Matte: The Aesthetic Battle
Choosing the perfect color for your kitchen laminates is hard, but choosing the finish—High Gloss or Matte—will fundamentally change the daily maintenance of your home.
High Gloss Laminates: The Pros and Cons
High gloss finishes are incredibly popular in Indian kitchens because they reflect massive amounts of light.
- The Big Pro: If your kitchen is small, gloss will bounce light around the room, making the space feel visually larger and brighter.
- The Big Con: Gloss is a mirror. It will show every single fingerprint, water splash, and micro-scratch. If you have kids or heavy kitchen activity, you will be wiping these cabinets down every single day.
Matte Laminates: The Pros and Cons
Matte finishes absorb light. They offer a muted, flat, highly sophisticated look that is dominating international design trends.
- The Big Pro: Superior scratch resistance. Unless deeply gouged, micro-scratches are invisible on a matte surface. Furthermore, premium matte laminates (like Greenlam AFX) have anti-fingerprint technology, making them incredibly low-maintenance and resistant to oil smudges.
- The Big Con: They can make a small, poorly lit room feel slightly darker because they do not bounce light.
Our Recommendation
For Kitchens: We highly recommend Super-Matte for base cabinets (which get kicked, scratched, and touched often with dirty hands) and High Gloss for the overhead cabinets (which are safer from scratches and help bounce ceiling light down onto the countertop).
For Wardrobes: Always matte. It looks infinitely more premium in a bedroom setting.
