Why You Need a Checklist
Interior projects fail in predictable ways. Wrong plywood grade used in the kitchen. AC position clashes with false ceiling tray. TV unit width didn't account for sofa depth. Electrical points at wrong height after plastering. Every one of these mistakes costs ₹10,000–₹50,000 to fix after the fact.
This checklist is designed to prevent all of them. Go through it phase by phase with your designer before work begins.
01 Before Starting Checklist
Get possession of the flat
Civil (flooring + plastering) is complete
Electrical rough-in is done
Builder-provided fixtures (bathroom fittings, main door) are installed
Fix a total budget with 10% contingency buffer
02 Design Phase Checklist
Share detailed dimensions with your designer
Get 3D renders for kitchen, master bedroom, and living room
Review and approve laminate/material selections
Confirm all appliance sizes (chimney, hob, fridge, microwave)
Sign a detailed work order with materials specified
03 Kitchen Checklist
IS:710 BWP marine plywood for all carcasses — verified
Countertop material selected (granite/quartz/corian)
Chimney route planned through false ceiling
Under-cabinet lighting planned
Pull-out waste bin included
Magic corner for blind corner (if L-shape)
04 Bedrooms Checklist
Wardrobe: IS:303 or IS:710 plywood carcass
Wardrobe: Hettich or standard sliding rail
Bed: solid plywood, not hollow blockboard
Study desk height: 75cm for working adults
AC position finalized before false ceiling is built
05 Living Room Checklist
TV unit back is flush with wall — check before installing
False ceiling tray placement doesn't block AC air throw
Sofa size confirmed before TV unit width is fixed
Floor lamp/reading light points pre-planned
06 Execution Checklist
Visit site when first wardrobe carcass is assembled
Check plywood edge grain for IS:710 certification before shutter installation
Verify false ceiling grid is level before boarding
Confirm electrical point heights with electrician before plastering
Walk through final snag list before making last payment
