Brief
Two siblings (ages 5 and 9) sharing a 150 sq ft bedroom. The brief: create a space that sparks imagination, supports homework and play, and doesn’t become outdated in 3 years.
The Concept: Enchanted Forest
A nature-themed room using a warm sage green + natural wood palette. No generic cartoon characters that age out of fashion — instead, a timeless forest motif through wallpaper, wooden elements, and leaf-shaped cut-out bunk bed detail.
The Bunk Bed
A custom loft bunk bed unit in birch-finish laminate. The upper bunk features a tree-shaped carved MDF railing (safe, rounded edges, tested to 200kg load). The lower bunk converts into a day sofa for the playroom feel during daylight hours.
A built-in bookshelf occupies the dead space between the bed and the wall — 3 linear metres of storage for books, toys, and display items.
The Study Zone
Two study desks on a shared surface — each 900mm wide, separated by a central divider. Individual shelf towers above each desk with name labels. Both desks sit at adjustable heights, accommodating the age gap between the siblings.
The Wardrobe
A 6ft wardrobe with half-height hanging (for children’s clothing) and fixed shelves. The sliding door uses a forest illustration printed on vinyl-wrap laminate — both decorative and durable.
Result
The children moved in and refused to leave for dinner on the first day. A universal indicator of project success.
